CowalFest Argyll 2018 Friday, 5th - Friday, 12th October

Once again CowalFest is up and running thanks to the efforts of a small, dedicated team of enthusiastic and committed volunteers. Their reward is seeing the event enjoyed by so many people, both new and returning, over the years. The Cowal Peninsula has so much to offer walkers, historians, and nature lovers, and we love sharing its secrets with you.

This year’s varied and exciting programme of walks, talks, and events includes fourteen new walks out of a total of forty-three available, plus some evening activities to keep you entertained. Serious challenges await the experienced walker with a climb of Cnoc Coinnic, Kilmarnock Hill, Ben Ruadh, and Beinn Mhor. Once again the Cowal Way rangers lead two sections of this long distance hike, one strenuous, but the other of a more gentle nature. However, you’ll still find many classic old favourites offered. Our walks are carefully graded to suit all abilities and ages, so please look carefully at the grading and walk description to make sure it’s right for you!

For 2018 we are introducing Social walks which are designed to be enjoyed in a more leisurely fashion, with a stop at a café/inn along the way or at the finish. To emphasise the inclusive, friendly nature of our Festival, some of the more challenging walks also have this refreshment option at the finish too. Other walks reflect the fascinating heritage to be found in Cowal, such as Fearnoch Chapel, and the histories of the Cowal Clans.

Special interest walks include bird watching, geological insights, a meditation walk, and new for 2018, a Photography walk to help you take amazing images of stunning places.

You may notice two differences in this year’s festival – length and pricing. Due to the MOD taking place this October in Dunoon, it was decided to shorten CowalFest to eight days to avoid a clash. Secondly, prices have been reviewed to reflect the type of walk and distance covered, offering tremendous value for money.

As a bonus for 2018, look out for walks that offer optional, all-inclusive, return transport from Dunoon and other pick-up points along the way.

Happy walking!
