Transport to Dunoon and Cowal
  • By rail - From Glasgow Central to Gourock, then Argyll passenger Ferries to Dunoon, or Arrochar from the north.
  • By ferry - Argyll Passanger Ferries from Gourock, Western Car Ferries from McInroy’s Point, Gourock, Cal-Mac car ferries from Bute or Kintyre.
  • By bus - McGills from Glasgow/Inverclyde; Citylink to Inveraray/Cairndow, and West Coast Motors local bus services.
  • By road -A82 from Glasgow heading north up Loch Lomondside or A82 from the north to Tarbet, Loch Lomond, then A83 over the Rest and Be Thankful pass, then A815 into the Cowal peninsula; or from Glasgow M8/A8 to McInroy’s Point, Gourock and Western Ferries to Dunoon.

Transport

Some walks offer tranport to the start from Dunoon, either by CowalFest mini-bus, car-share, or public bus services. Check out the Walk Diary, and individual Walk Details.

Public transport

Bus times should always be verified before setting out. Walk times should give adequate time but will depend on walking speed and conditions.

Car parking
Car parking is usually available at walk start points but can sometimes be limited.

Prior booking
Numbers participating on guided walks are limited. To avoid disappointment prior booking of all walks is strongly recommended.
