Cowalfest 2008 will be from 3rd to 12th October 2008

Cowalfest AGM and Beaver Talk

The AGM will be held on Wednesday 4th June at 7.30 at Strachur Hall
followed by a talk on the reintroduction of Beavers, which have been extinct in Scotland since the sixteenth century.
The talk will be given by Simon Jones of the Beaver Project organised with the Scottish Wildlife Trust Clyde Members Centre

The Story of the Glenmasan Manuscript and the Deirdre Legend

Coming shortly a new Cowalfest publication - The Story of the Glenmasan Manuscript and the Deirdre Legend by Russell Bruce and Douglas Hyde. This 500 year old Gaelic manuscript in the National Library of Scotland and its long association with Cowal is explored in some detail. and relates how it was rescued by Lord Bannatyne, the last Bannatyne laird of Kames on Bute, at the time of the Ossian controversy.
Douglas Hyde's compilation of the Deirdre legend from original Gaelic sources is reproduced in the second part of the book by kind permission of The CELT Project, University College Cork
Russell Bruce is Chair of Cowafest and Douglas Hyde, was a noted Gaelic scholar and first President of Ireland.

Staring Down on Stars; James Ogilvie in Sagarmatha

Following a presentation at Cowalfest last autumn, an exhibition of photographs by James Ogilvie covering his trip to the Sagarmatha National Park, Khumbu Valley and ascent of Everest in 2007. On display at the Gateway for National Parks week, thereafter various venues throughout the park.
