Letter From Our Patron

Hello! My name is Paul Kerr and I am honoured to be Patron of the 2017 Cowal Walking and Outdoor Festival – CowalFest Argyll.

Looking back over my forty years it is safe to say that my journey has been educational and the lessons learned have been rewarding. By the age of forty I have had to learn to walk three times – once as a normal ten month old child and a further two times after aggressive attacks of multiple sclerosis. I now make a conscious effort to continue to recognise my body’s potential and be grateful for what I have.

Walking is a precious pastime and an enjoyable form of exercise and CowalFest Argyll gives a fantastic opportunity for people who want to take part in this pursuit. Cowal is a bit like an outdoor playground for whatever sport you care to take part in and there is something here for all ages and abilities. It is an inspirational place for walking and I commend CowalFest Argyll as a starting point for getting out and about and making the most of your leisure time. Enjoy the walks and treasure the memories.

With very best wishes
Paul Kerr

Paul is an ex Royal Marine who has always enjoyed the challenge of outdoor pursuits. In recent years the debilitating disease of Multiple Sclerosis has seriously impaired his ability to continue doing all he would like but his determination and enthusiasm has not allowed him to stop enjoying the outdoors.

He views it as another challenge to overcome and is a role model for others who might lack his motivation. Among other things he has been Dunoon’s Citizen of the Year, raised considerable funds for the MS Society, written a book about his experiences, climbed three peaks in twenty four hours and swum across the Clyde
